The Charles Bridge is one of the most important places in Prague. Combining both banks of the Vltava river, the bridge has existed since the fourteenth century. By mid-nineteenth century it was the only bridge connecting both banks of the river Vltava. It has more than 500 meters in length and is supported by 16 pillars. There are more than 30 bands of statues located at the bridge. It is a real gallery of Baroque statues, created by the greatest artists of that era. In addition to baroque sculptures you will also find there sculptures from the early twentieth century, created in a slightly different style. The most popular place on the bridge is the statue of St. John of Nepomuk. It contains two boards, one of which depicts the scene of St. John's drowning in the river Vltava, the other depicts the scene of confession of St. Queen Sofia.
